England 4 Wales 3
England 4 Wales 3, Ashton Gate, British Home Championship, March 17, 1913. Although Wales were defeated by neighbours England at Bristol City´s Ashton Gate, Manchester United outside right Billy Meredith enjoyed an excellent game for The Dragons against The Three Lions who eventually managed to win the entertaining encounter by four goals to three.
Walter Davis put Wales into the lead with a left-foot shot that beat Derby County goalkeeper Ernald Scattergood in the 10th minute of the fixture, but goals from Harold Fleming, Eddie Latheron, and Joseph McCall in the 27th, 30th and 35th minute respectively gave the home side a 3-1 advantage at the break. After the restart, Billy Meredith reduced the deficit for the visitors when the thirty-eight-year-old striker hammered the ball into the net seven minutes into the second half, only for Aston Villa marksman Harry Hampton to make it 4-2 to England with a header three minutes later. Liverpool´s Ernest Peake scored a third goal for the Welshmen in the 70th minute, but the hosts kept the visitors at bay for the remainder of the match to secure the win.
