The only goal of the match was scored by Harold Halse who found the target with seventeen minutes remaining on the referee´s watch.
Reigning First Division Champions Manchester United came close to scoring on several occasions during the opening fort-five minutes at Bramall Lane, but the first period ended goalless. The winning goal of the FA Cup Semi Final ultimately arrived in the 73rd minute of the hard-fought encounter when a pass from outside left George Wall found inside forward Harold Halse who hammed an unstoppable effort past Newcastle custodian Jimmy Lawrence and into the back of the net.
