Man­chester Uni­ted trashed Black­burn Rov­ers by 6-1 in their sec­ond ho­me fix­ture of the sea­son. Al­bert Quix­all and sum­mer sign­ing Da­vid Herd bo­th sco­red a brace for the ho­me te­am whi­le Bob­by Charl­ton and Mau­rice Set­ters re­gistered a goal each.

Man­chester Uni­ted, who came fresh from a 3-2 ho­me vic­tory over Chel­sea, put them­selves in­to an early lead thanks to Bob­by Charl­ton who fou­nd the net af­ter just three min­utes. Black­burn Rov­ers lev­elled the score thro­ugh a goal from de­fender Jack Bray in the 48th min­ute of the ga­me, but The Reds re­gained the ad­vant­age when Al­bert Quix­all be­at Ew­ood Park goal­keeper Fred Else from the pen­alty spot ten min­utes la­ter. Quix­all went on to com­plete his brace in the 59th min­ute be­fore two goals from for­mer Ar­senal stri­ker Da­vid Herd in the 75th and 78th min­utes and one from Mau­rice Set­ters in the 88th min­ute made the fi­nal score 6-1 in fa­vour of the hosts.
