Tottenham Hotspur 3 Manchester United 1, Hillsborough Stadium, English FA Cup Semi Final, March 31, 1962. After dispensing of Second Division team Preston North End in the previous round of the competition, Matt Busby´s Manchester United succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of FA Cup holders Tottenham Hotspur at Hillsborough in Sheffield.
Manchester United found themselves a goal down in the fourth minute of the semi final when Jimmy Greaves beat David Gaskell with a trademark finish. The Mancunians pushed hard for an equaliser, but instead it was The Lilywhites who moved further in front as Cliff Jones converted a cross from John White in the 24th minute of the game. David Herd, who had joined Manchester United from Arsenal at the beginning of the 1961-62 season, managed to reduce the deficit for The Reds in the 82nd minute, only for Welsh international Terry Medwin to score a third goal for the White Hart Laners when the winger headed home five minutes later.
