Da­vid Moyes re­cor­ded his fir­st win as man­ager of Man­chester Uni­ted wi­th a mor­ale-boost­ing con­vin­cing 5-1 tri­umph ag­ainst The Aus­trali­an Lea­gue All Stars at Sta­dium Aus­tralia in Sydney, New So­uth Wales. The Man­chester Reds fou­nd them­selves two goals up at the ha­lf-time break and net­ted three more dur­ing the sec­ond pe­riod of the tie.

The clash be­tween The A-Lea­gue All Stars and Man­chester Uni­ted had be­en pro­moted as one of the biggest foot­ball mat­ches ever staged in Aus­tralia by the Aus­trali­an Foot­ball Fed­er­a­tion. Uni­ted were look­ing to re­store their pride fol­low­ing the sur­prise 1-0 de­feat ag­ainst Dr. Vichit Yamboonruang´s Sing­ha All Star El­ev­en at the Ra­jamangala Na­tion­al Sta­dium in sub­urb­an Bangkok in their pre­vi­ous mat­ch, and, in Sydney, Da­vid Moyes´s trav­el­ling play­ers dom­in­ated the pos­ses­sion of the ball for large parts of the sum­mer tour fix­ture and the vis­it­ors kept the op­pos­ing de­fence un­der con­stant pres­sure through­out the con­test. In front of a 83,000 crowd at the ANZ Sta­dium in New So­uth Wales, Man­chester Uni­ted went in­to a fully de­served early 1-0 lead when mid­field war­ri­or Jesse Lin­gard fou­nd the back of the net af­ter just el­ev­en min­utes of play. Eng­land in­ter­na­tion­al Dan­ny Wel­beck then made it 2-0 Uni­ted in the 34th min­ute of the en­thralling and pul­sating friendly clash be­fore Bris­bane Roar and Al­bania stri­ker Be­sart Ber­isha ma­naged to re­duce the de­fi­cit for The Aus­trali­an Lea­gue All Stars sev­en min­utes in­to the sec­ond ha­lf. Lin­gard and Wel­beck then net­ted one more goal each in the 54th and 70th min­utes re­spect­ively to make the score­board re­flect a 4-1 ad­vant­age for Man­chester Uni­ted. And wi­th sev­en min­utes left on the watch, sec­ond ha­lf sub­sti­tute Robin van Per­sie sco­red the last goal of the pre-sea­son tour ga­me, hand­ing Uni­ted a 5-1 win over The A-Lea­gue All Stars.
