Alex Buttner Signing
Alexander Buttner, born Doetinchem, Netherlands, February 11, 1989. One of Hollands´s most coveted youngsters, Alexander Buttner joined Manchester United for a fee of around £3.9 million at the front end of the 2012-13 season. The Dutchman was brought to Manchester United as cover for France international Patrice Evra and was given the number 28 shirt.
On the 21st of August 2012, Manchester United announced that Vitesse Arnhem and Netherlands U20 international defender Alexander Buttner had completed his medical test at the Bridgewater Hospital in Manchester and agreed to a five-year deal with The Reds. A determined and wholehearted left fullback, Buttner had been included in the provisional Netherlands Squad for the 2012 UEFA European Championships in Poland and Ukaine, and had previously been linked with Barclays Premier League teams Fulham, Queens Park Rangers, and Southampton, as well as German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen. According to Dutch Manchester United First Team Coach Rene Meulensteen, however, it was his attacking qualities that had caught the attention of Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson over the years. Rene Meulensteen: “We like to see Alexander Buttner as an aggressive, self-aware player who likes to think ahead. We bought him because we see he has great potential, for the future that is. We heard a lot of positive things about Buttner and that is why I recommended him to Sir Alex Ferguson.
