Alexander Buttner

Al­ex­an­der Buttner, born Doet­in­chem, Neth­er­lands, Feb­ruary 11, 1989. One of Hollands´s most coveted young­sters, Al­ex­an­der Buttner joi­ned Man­chester Uni­ted for a fee of ar­ound £3.9 mil­lion at the front end of the 2012-13 sea­son. The Dutch­man was bro­ught to Man­chester Uni­ted as cov­er for Fran­ce in­ter­na­tion­al Pat­rice Ev­ra and was giv­en the num­ber 28 shirt. 

On the 21st of Au­gust 2012, Man­chester Uni­ted an­nounced that Vitesse Arnhem and Neth­er­lands U20 in­ter­na­tion­al de­fender Al­ex­an­der Buttner had com­pleted his med­ic­al test at the Bridge­wa­ter Hos­pit­al in Man­chester and agreed to a five-year deal wi­th The Reds. A de­term­ined and whole­hearted left full­back, Buttner had be­en in­cluded in the pro­vi­sion­al Neth­er­lands Squad for the 2012 UEFA Euro­pean Cham­pi­on­ships in Po­land and Ukaine, and had pre­vi­ously be­en linked wi­th Barclays Pre­mier Lea­gue te­ams Ful­ham, Queens Park Ran­gers, and South­ampton, as well as Ger­man Bundes­liga si­de Wer­der Bre­men. Ac­cord­ing to Dutch Man­chester Uni­ted Fir­st Te­am Coach Rene Meu­lensteen, how­ever, it was his at­tack­ing qual­it­ies that had caught the at­ten­tion of Old Traf­ford boss Sir Al­ex Fer­guson over the years. Rene Meu­lensteen: “We like to see Al­ex­an­der Buttner as an ag­gress­ive, self-aware play­er who likes to think ahead. We bought him be­cause we see he has great po­ten­tial, for the fu­ture that is. We heard a lot of pos­it­ive things about Buttner and that is why I re­com­men­ded him to Sir Al­ex Fer­guson.
