Aston Villa 2 Man United 0
Aston Villa 2 Manchester United 0, Villa Park, English Football League Second Division, February 22, 1975. League Division Two leaders Manchester United succumbed to a 2-0 loss at the hands of fellow promotion contenders Aston Villa whose goals were scored by Keith Leonard and Ray Graydon.
Ron “Tudor” Davies, who entered the field as a second half substitute for Mick Martin, and Arnold Sidebottom both made their final appearance for Manchester United in the 2-0 defeat against Aston Villa. Brian Greenhoff and his fellow defenders had a tough time against The Villains who went in front when a pass from local born striker Keith Leonard found free scoring winger Ray Graydon who fired a low shot past Manchester United goalkeeper Alex Stepney and into the net five minutes after the break. Stuart “Pancho” Pearson came close to netting for the visiting team shortly afterwards, but his ferocious close range effort went just over the crossbar. As the second period of the contest progressed, Aston Villa doubled their lead when long serving defender Charlie Aitken managed to head home a corner from Graydon to secure a 2-0 win for the hosts.
