England 2 Portugal 1
England had reached the semi finals by defeating Argentina 1-0 courtesy of a Geoff Hurst goal, while Portugal had beaten North Korea 5-3 thanks to four goals from Eusebio and a single by Jose Augusto. In front of a crowd of 90,000 spectators, Bobby Charlton registered the first goal of the match with a shot from eighteen yards out on the half-hour mark. And with ten minutes left of the game, the Manchester United marksman scored again when he received a pass from Martin Peters and smashed the ball past goalkeeper Jose Pereira and into the back of the net. A mere two minutes later, Eusebio netted from the penalty spot, but England held on to win the World Cup Semi-Final by 2-1.
