Manchester United, who had overcome Wigan Athletic, Bolton Wanderers, Blackburn Rovers, and Sheffield United in their last four Premiership fixtures, took the lead against Middlesbrough in the 19th minute as Louis Saha beat Riverside custodian Mark Schwarzer from the penalty spot after the latter had fouled Cristiano Ronaldo inside the area. Boro equalised six minutes past the hour mark when substitute James Morrison smashed a volley past Manchester United shot stopper Edwin van der Sar and into the bottom left corner of the net, but the visitors had the last laugh as Darren Fletcher headed home a cross from Ryan Giggs two minutes later.
