Chelsea player John Terry captained England to an important away victory as they defeated Bulgaria by 3-0. The Three Lions made the score sheet after a quarter of an hour as Aston Villa midfield entrepreneur Gareth Barry found forward thinking Bolton Wanderers defender Gary Cahill who cooly managed to put the ball past the onrushing Nikolay Mihaylov in the Bulgaria goal and into the back of the net. Wayne Rooney then headed home a fine flag-kick from Liverpool flanker Stewart Downing in the 21st minute of the fixture before the England marksman eventually converted a good cross from Manchester United teammate Ashley Young to make the score read 3-0 shortly before the sound of the half-time whistle. Following the encounter against Lothar Matthaus´s Bulgaria, Fabio Capello said that he was delighted with England’s performance, but he still outlined several ways in which his players could improve. The Italian nevertheless declared himself happy and satisfied with an away triumph that left his team three points clear at the top of European Championship Qualifying Group H.
