In­stead it was Levir Culpi´s Cerezo Osa­ka te­am who went in­to the lead when Ja­pan Un­der-23 in­ter­na­tion­al Kenyu Su­g­imoto fou­nd the back of the net in the 34th min­ute of the clash. Shortly af­ter the re­sump­tion, Eng­land wing­er Ash­ley Young went down in­side the eight­een-yard area and the ref­er­ee awar­ded Man­chester Uni­ted a pen­alty kick which was squan­dered by Ja­pan in­ter­na­tion­al Shinji Ka­gawa, but the mid­field ar­chi­tect ma­naged to re­deem him­self when he con­ver­ted the sub­sequent cor­ner kick in the 54th min­ute of the play. The Ja­pan­ese Lea­gue Di­vi­sion One te­am then sco­red their sec­ond goal of the ga­me thanks to a mag­ni­fi­cent shot from Tak­umi Mi­n­amino on 63 min­utes, on­ly for for­mer Crys­tal Pal­ace play­er Wil­fried Za­ha to ham­mer ho­me in stop­page time ma­king the score­board at Osa­ka Na­gai Sta­dium read 2–2.
