Uni­ted, who were with­out French goal­keeper Fa­bi­en Bar­thez be­cause of in­jury, went in­to the lead three min­utes pa­st the ha­lf-hour ma­rk when Re­pub­lic of Ire­land mid­fielder Roy Ke­ane de­livered a mag­ni­fi­cent 50-yard cross-field pass to Ole Gun­nar Sol­skjaer who sco­red wi­th a su­perb fin­ish. Man­chester Uni­ted had com­plete con­trol fol­low­ing the re­sump­tion and Sol­skjaer re­gistered his sec­ond goal of the day wi­th six­teen min­utes re­maining of the clash to hand The Reds a 2-0 away win ag­ainst the So­uth East Lon­doners.
