Af­ter a win­ning streak of eight Pre­mier Lea­gue mat­ches, Man­chester Uni­ted lost two points ag­ainst Charl­ton Ath­let­ic. Un­der the flood­lights at The Val­ley in So­uth East Lon­don, So­uth Afric­an stri­ker Shaun Bart­lett gave the hosts the up­per hand in the tenth min­ute of the FA Carling Pre­miership ga­me be­fore a goal each by Ry­an Gig­gs and Ole Gun­nar Sol­skjaer in the 42nd and 43rd min­utes re­spect­ively made it 2-1 to Man­chester Uni­ted at the ha­lf-time break. Fol­low­ing the re­sump­tion of the con­test, Re­pub­lic of Ire­land in­ter­na­tion­al Roy Ke­ane net­ted a third goal for the vis­it­ors six min­utes pa­st the hour ma­rk, on­ly for Bart­lett to re­duce the de­fi­cit for The Ad­dicks in the 79th min­ute. And wi­th just five min­utes re­maining of nor­mal time, John Robin­son ma­naged to equal­ise for Charl­ton when the Welsh mid­fielder be­at Man­chester Uni­ted goal­keeper Rai­mond van der Gouw wi­th a low shot in­to the far cor­ner of the net af­ter the op­pos­ing de­fence had failed to deal wi­th a flag-kick from ex-Bol­ton Wan­derers play­maker Claus Jensen.
