Charlton 3 Manchester U 3
Charlton Athletic 3 Manchester United 3, The Valley Stadium, English Premier League, December 9, 2000. Manchester United were held to a surprise draw by unfancied Charlton Athletic in a high-scoring affair at The Valley. United were leading 3-1 midway through the second half before Athletic came back to score two late goals to finish the match 3-3.
After a winning streak of eight Premier League matches, Manchester United lost two points against Charlton Athletic. Under the floodlights at The Valley in South East London, South African striker Shaun Bartlett gave the hosts the upper hand in the tenth minute of the FA Carling Premiership game before a goal each by Ryan Giggs and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the 42nd and 43rd minutes respectively made it 2-1 to Manchester United at the half-time break. Following the resumption of the contest, Republic of Ireland international Roy Keane netted a third goal for the visitors six minutes past the hour mark, only for Bartlett to reduce the deficit for The Addicks in the 79th minute. And with just five minutes remaining of normal time, John Robinson managed to equalise for Charlton when the Welsh midfielder beat Manchester United goalkeeper Raimond van der Gouw with a low shot into the far corner of the net after the opposing defence had failed to deal with a flag-kick from ex-Bolton Wanderers playmaker Claus Jensen.
