Brian Greenhoff And Charlie George

Derby County 0 Manchester United 0, Baseball Ground, English Football League First Division, August 28, 1976. Brian Greenhoff put in a good performance in defence alongside Martin Buchan as Manchester United managed a goalless draw against The Rams before a 34,000 crowd at Baseball Ground.

Manchester United had succumbed to a narrow 2-1 defeat against Derby County in their last meeting at Baseball Ground, with former Arsenal forward Charlie George scoring a brace for the hosts either side of the break and Republic of Ireland midfielder Gerry Daly hitting a second-half goal for The Reds. United came into this fixture fresh from a reassuring 2-0 win over Coventry City at Highfield Road, while Dave Mackay´s men had been held to a disappointing goalless draw by Jack Charlton´s Middlesbrough at Baseball Ground. Derby and Manchester United were closely matched throughout the ninety minutes and both sides had their scoring opportunities during encounter, but neither was able to break the defensive deadlock. If anything, the relatively uneventful goalless draw at Baseball Ground meant that both teams were still undefeated in the First Division.
