Eng­land fou­nd them­selves ahead in the friendly ga­me in the 36th min­ute as Ash­ley Cole sent a thro­ugh pass to Mi­chael Owen who chipped the ball over Faryd Mon­drag­on and in­to the goal. And six min­utes la­ter Owen net­ted a sec­ond goal for The Three Li­ons wi­th an­oth­er fine fin­ish, on­ly for Mario Yepes to re­duce the de­fi­cit for the So­uth Amer­ic­ans on the stroke of ha­lf-time af­ter a mis­take by Da­vid Ja­mes. The white shirts kept the pres­sure on fol­low­ing the break and had their third goal thro­ugh Owen in the 58th min­ute of play be­fore Aldo Ramirez net­ted a sec­ond con­sol­a­tion for The Cof­fee­makers wi­th twelve min­utes re­maining on the sta­dium clock in New Jer­sey.
