Eng­land 2 Switzer­land 2, Wemb­ley Sta­dium, UEFA Euro­pean Cham­pi­on­ship Quali­fier, June 4, 2011. Eng­land were held to a sur­prise draw by Switzer­land at Wemb­ley Sta­dium. Tran­quillo Barnetta pro­vided the vis­it­ors a shock­ing 2-0 lead, but goals from mid­fielder Frank Lam­pard and wing­er Ash­ley Young earned The Three Li­ons a hard-fou­ght 2-2 draw.

Rio Fer­dinand al­most con­ver­ted a dan­ger­ous cross from Frank Lam­pard four min­utes be­fore the ha­lf-hour ma­rk, but his head­er went over the bar. In­stead it was Switzer­land who went ahead in the ga­me thanks to Tran­quillo Barnetta who sco­red on a free-kick in the 32nd min­ute of the clash, and on­ly three min­utes la­ter the same man net­ted wi­th an­oth­er free-kick to give the Swiss a 2-0 lead. But wi­th eight min­utes re­maining of the fir­st ha­lf Jack Wil­shere was tripped by Ar­senal team­mate Jo­han Djour­ou in­side the box and Lam­pard stepped up and con­ver­ted the pen­alty to pull one goal back. And the ho­me si­de sco­red ag­ain just six min­utes fol­low­ing the in­ter­val when Ash­ley Young fou­nd the back of the net wi­th a su­perb shot to make the score two-all.
