Federico Macheda, born Rome, Italy, August 22, 1991. Federico Macheda initiated his playing career with the Lazio Youth Team after being spotted by coach Volfango Patarca at the age of ten. Greatly impressed by Macheda, Sir Alex Ferguson brought Macheda to Manchester United where he signed his first professional contract with the club in August 2008.
Federico Macheda became an instant hit with the Manchester United fans when he netted the winning goal on his Premier League debut against Aston Villa at Old Trafford on the 5th of April 2009. With fierce competition for places, the youngster struggled for a regular run of matches, however, and he only managed to notch up 19 Premiership appearances for The Reds before he joined freshly relegated Championship team Cardiff City on a free transfer at the end of the 2013-14 campaign. After playing 27 Football League games for The Bluebirds, the forward eventually decided to join forces with Italian Serie B side Novara Calcio in December 2016. Internationally, Macheda represented the country of his birth at under-16, under-17, under-19, and under-21 levels. Federico Macheda: “I arrived in July 2007 without my parents and was taken to my digs in Manchester. After two hours in my room I wanted to go straight back to Rome. The next day I went and trained at Carrington and after had lunch next to Ryan Giggs and Cristiano Ronaldo and Sir Alex Ferguson came and met me and encouraged me. In five years at Lazio I never once met a member of the first team or the manager.”
