Jonathan Clark, born Swansea, Wales, November 12, 1958. Jonathan Clark began his career as a trainee with Manchester United in March 1975 and signed his first professional contract with the club in November the same year. But with competition for places in the starting eleven at United very stiff, he left to join forces with Derby County in September 1978.
Jonathan Clark was handed his First Division debut for Manchester United by Tommy Docherty when he took the field as a substitute for Colin Waldron in a 3-3 draw against Sunderland at Old Trafford on the 10th of November 1976, but the midfield player failed to make a breakthrough and was sold to Derby County for a transfer fee of £50,000 at the front end of the 1978-79 campaign. Clark made his first team debut for The Rams in a 3-0 Division One defeat to Norwich City at Carrow Road on the 30th of September 1978 and amassed 53 Football League appearances for the Baseball Ground side before he moved on to newly relegated Third Division outfit Preston North End at the beginning of the 1981-82 season. After making his debut for Preston in a 2-1 League Division Three defeat against Millwall at The Den on the 29th of August 1981, he played 135 first team games for The Lilywhites before signing with Bury midway through the 1986-87 campaign.
