Man­chester Uni­ted had more prob­lems than ex­pec­ted ag­ainst Leeds Uni­ted at El­land Road, but Sir Al­ex Ferguson´s si­de ev­entually emer­ged 3-2 win­ners thanks to goals from Da­vid Bel­lion and Diego For­lan plus one goal by Eric Djemba-Djemba.

Man­chester Uni­ted had de­feated Leeds Uni­ted 1-0 in a Pre­mier Lea­gue fix­ture at El­land Road cour­tesy of  a late sec­ond ha­lf goal from Roy Ke­ane in the pre­vi­ous meet­ing be­tween the two te­ams ten days earli­er and were slight fa­vour­ites to be­at the York­shire­men. The Pea­cocks nev­er­the­less took the ad­vant­age as Brazili­an in­ter­na­tion­al de­fender Roque Ju­ni­or head­ed ho­me a cor­ner-kick from ex-Der­by Coun­ty mid­fielder Seth John­son four min­utes fol­low­ing the ha­lf-time break, but as the sec­ond ha­lf went on Man­chester Uni­ted gradu­ally took con­trol of pro­ceed­ings and the red shirts ul­ti­mately equal­ised thro­ugh twenty-year-old for­ward Da­vid Bel­lion who raced onto a thro­ugh pass from Eric Djemba-Djemba and be­at Three Li­ons shot stop­per Paul Robin­son wi­th a cool fin­ish twelve min­utes from nor­mal time. Then, in ex­tra time, Diego For­lan put Man­chester Uni­ted ahead for the fir­st time in the mat­ch when he con­ver­ted a low cross from Dar­ren Fletch­er on 108 min­utes. But Roque Ju­ni­or fou­nd the back of the net ag­ain six min­utes la­ter, on­ly for Djemba-Djemba to score the win­ner for the vis­it­ors when he got on the end of a well de­livered flag-kick from Quin­ton For­tune and ham­mered the ball pa­st Robin­son and in­to the top left-hand cor­ner of the net af­ter 117 min­utes of play.
