Man­chester Uni­ted goal­keeper Ron­nie Briggs con­ceded six goals as Matt Busby´s men suf­fered a 6-0 loss to Lei­cester City. Jim­my Wal­sh and Ken Key­worth hit a brace each for City, whi­le Gor­don Wil­lis, and How­ard Ri­ley net­ted a goal apiece.

Fol­low­ing a 2-0 tri­umph over ta­ble top­ping Tot­ten­ham Hot­spur at Old Traf­ford, Man­chester Uni­ted lost 6-0 away to fel­low mid-ta­ble te­am Lei­cester in what was Ron­nie Brigg´s de­but mat­ch for The Reds. City mo­ved ahead when Jim­my Wal­sh put the ball bey­ond the reach of Briggs and in­to the back of the net in the 21st min­ute of the ga­me and the hosts soon had a sec­ond goal as Ken Key­worth fou­nd the tar­get a min­ute pa­st the ha­lf-hour ma­rk. The Fil­berts con­tin­ued to press high up the pitch in the sec­ond ha­lf and Wal­sh and Key­worth com­pleted their braces in the 51st and 70th min­utes re­spect­ively. Gor­don Wil­lis then net­ted the fifth goal of the day in the 76th min­ute, whi­le How­ard Ri­ley roun­ded off the scor­ing as the Wig­ston born wing­er be­at Briggs from the pen­alty spot wi­th five min­utes left. Un­for­tu­nately, Ron­nie Briggs on­ly ma­naged to make el­ev­en fir­st te­am ap­pear­ances for Man­chester Uni­ted wi­th his fi­nal out­ing com­ing in a 3-2 Fir­st Di­vi­sion de­feat ag­ainst Ar­senal at Old Traf­ford on the 16th of April 1962. The Bel­fast born shot stop­per would la­ter ap­pear for Sec­ond Di­vi­sion si­de Swansea To­wn and Third Di­vi­sion te­am Bris­tol Rov­ers, and then fi­nally West­ern Lea­gue club Frome To­wn. In­ter­na­tion­ally, Briggs was han­ded his seni­or de­but for his na­tive North­ern Ire­land in a 4-0 Brit­ish Ho­me Cham­pi­on­ship loss ag­ainst Wales at Nini­an Park on the 11th of April 1962 and gain­ed his sec­ond, and last, full cap in a 2-1 Wor­ld Cup Quali­fier vic­tory over the Neth­er­lands at Wind­sor Park on the 17th of Mar­ch 1965.
