Liverpool 7 Manchester U 4
Manchester United goalkeeper Harry Mogan had a busy afternoon as Ernest Mangnall´s title challengers lost 7-4 to Liverpool away. United had defeated the Liverpudlians by a solid 4-0 margin at Bank Street in the reverse meeting of the 1907-08 campaign, but Tom Watson´s men caused more problems than expected in the return fixture at Anfield. Former Sunderland marksman Joe Hewitt opened the scoring account for Liverpool after four minutes before two goals by Bill McPherson and one from Robbie Robinson made the half-time score 4-0 to the home team. As the second period got underway, George Wall pulled back two goals for the guests from Manchester, only for McPherson and Robinson to score a goal apiece for the hosts in the 69th and 74th minutes respectively. With time ticking down, Manchester United staged a late comeback as Sandy Turnbull and James Bannister grabbed one goal each during the closing stages of the clash, but the Merseysiders had the last say with Hewitt finding the back of the net with just a minute left of normal time. As regards Ted Dalton, the Manchester born defender would spend the rest of his active career playing Non-League football.
