Manchester U 1 Arsenal 2
Manchester United 1 Arsenal 2, Old Trafford, English FA Cup Quarter-Final, March 9, 2015. Louis van Gaal openly admitted at the post-match conference that he was bitterly disappointed after Manchester United were knocked out of the FA Cup by Arsenal. Wayne Rooney cancelled out Nacho Monreal’s opening goal for The Gunners in the first half, but the visiting side came back to win the encounter thanks to a second half goal by Danny Welbeck.
Louis van Gaal´s multi million pound team were out of the FA Cup after suffering a 2-1 defeat at the hands of bitter rivals Arsenal at Old Trafford in the quarter-finals. To make things even worse, Manchester United and Argentina international midfielder Angel Di Maria was given the red card in the 77th minute of the tussle for diving and pushing match official Michael Oliver, and the twenty-seven-year-old player would now serve a one-game suspension. Louis van Gaal: “I think that Angel Di Maria has touched the referee and that’s forbidden in every country, so he has no excuses. He knows that he doesn’t have to touch the referee and every player knows that. So that is not so smart of him, but emotion is not so easy in such a match. I have said to Di Maria that the referee is the boss on the pitch and you have to adapt to that, not the other way around.” Manchester United Team: David de Gea, Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, Antonio Valencia, Marouane Fellaini, Daley Blind, Ander Herrera, Waune Rooney, Angel Di Maria, Ashley Young.
