Manchester United gained their eighth successive Premiership win as they trashed Middlesbrough 4-1 at home. United were 2-1 up at the break thanks to goals by Luis Nani and Wayne Rooney, while Carlos Tevez added two more for the hosts in the second half.
Manchester United, who were chasing their seventeenth championship title, were a goal up in the third minute of the tie when Portuguese flankman Luis Nani hammered home from thirty yards out, only for former France U21 international winger Jeremie Aliadiere to level the score for Gareth Southgate´s Middlesbrough with a well placed header three minutes later. The Manchester United players kept on pushing forward and regained their lead as Stuart Downing lost the ball to Nani who found Wayne Rooney whose fierce shot from inside the penalty area went past Middlesbrough and Australia netminder Mark Schwarzer and into the goal in the 33rd minute of the clash. Following the restart, The Reds Devils increased their advantage in the 55th minute of action when Argentina international striker Carlos Tevez took a sublime back-heel pass from Rooney and powered the ball into the net from inside the box. As the second half progressed, Sir Alex Ferguson made three substitutions with Darren Fletcher, Gerard Pique, and Ryan Giggs coming on for Owen Hargreaves, Rio Ferdinand, and Oliveira Anderson respectively. With the match approaching the end, Tevez ultimately completed his brace as the the summer signing from West Ham United found the onion bag again with an effort which deflected off Boro defender Andrew Taylor enroute to the goal with five minutes remaining of the contest. After defeating Middlesbrough by a 4-1 margin at Old Trafford, Manchester United had now scored four goals in each of their previous four fixtures.
