Ole Gun­nar Sol­skjaer fol­lowed up his de­but goal ag­ainst Black­burn Rov­ers wi­th an­oth­er one ag­ainst Not­ting­ham For­est. Double win­ners Man­chester Uni­ted were 2-1 up at the in­ter­val and sco­red two more goals in the sec­ond ha­lf to over­come For­est 4-1. 

Not­ting­ham For­est went in­to an early 1-0 lead thanks to Alfie Haa­land who fou­nd the net af­ter just three min­utes. Man­chester Uni­ted hit back as fel­low coun­try­man Ole Gun­nar Sol­skjaer took full ad­vant­age of a mis­take by Not­ting­ham For­est and Three Li­ons de­fender Stu­art Pe­arce to put the ball in­to the net in the twenty-sec­ond min­ute of the clash be­fore Ry­an Gig­gs made it 2-1 to the ho­me si­de two min­utes ahead of the break. Af­ter the re­start, Eric Can­tona ad­ded a third goal for Man­chester Uni­ted on eighty-two min­utes and the for­ward sco­red ag­ain when he con­ver­ted from the pen­alty spot in the fi­nal min­ute of the tie.
