Af­ter los­ing the fir­st leg ga­me 2-1, Man­chester Uni­ted be­at Midtjyl­land 5-1 in the re­turn ga­me at Old Traf­ford thanks to a brace by Mar­cus Rash­ford and fur­ther goals from An­der Her­rera and Mem­ph­is De­pay, plus an own goal by Nikolaj Bodurov. 

Man­chester Uni­ted were with­out sev­er­al in­jured play­ers for the the clash wi­th Midtjyl­land, and to top it all, An­thony Mar­tial sus­tained a ham­string in­jury dur­ing the pre-mat­ch warm-up and was re­placed by Mar­cus Rash­ford. The Danes push­ed them­selves in­to the lead thro­ugh Pi­one Sis­to in the 27th min­ute of the tie, but the ho­me si­de got their equalser shortly af­ter­wards when Nikolaj Bo­dur­ov ma­naged to put the ball in­to his own net two min­utes pa­st the ha­lf-hour ma­rk. As the sec­ond ha­lf un­fol­ded, Rash­ford doubled Man­chester United´s ad­vant­age in the 63rd min­ute be­fore the eight­een-year-old wing­er com­pleted his brace twelve min­utes la­ter. And shortly be­fore full-time, An­der Her­rera net­ted from the pen­alty spot af­ter Ki­an Han­sen had handled the ball in­side the area in the 88th min­ute, whi­le Mem­ph­is De­pay sco­red a fifth goal for Uni­ted in the fi­nal min­ute to make it 5-1 to the hosts.
