Manchester United 1 Liverpool 0, Old Trafford, English Football League First Division, September 13, 1969. Aberdonian John Fitzpatrick had an excellent day in midfield as Manchester United won their third First Division match of the 1969-70 campaign by beating North West rivals Liverpool at home.

The Anfielders started the better and dominated large parts of the first period, but the visitors were not able to find the back of the net. Manchester United came back much stronger following the resumption as the midfield started to take charge and the home side took the lead when Northern Ireland international Georgie Best rose to head a high ball onto Scotland winger Willie Morgan who drove it home nine minutes past the hour mark. The Liverpool players tried valiantly to get themselves an equaliser, but The Manchester Reds managed to hold on to secure a narrow 1-0 win over the Merseysiders.
