Manchester U 1 Norwich 1
Manchester United 1 Norwich City 1, Old Trafford, English Football League Second Division, March 15, 1975. After outclassing relegation threatened Cardiff City 4-0 in their previous home match, Manchester United were held to a 1-1 draw by fellow promotion hunters Norwich City in front of a 56,000 crowd at Old Trafford. Stuart Pearson gave The Reds the upper hand in the 51st minute of the encounter before former United centre forward Ted MacDougall equalised for The Canaries seventeen minutes later.
The 1974-75 season had been great for Manchester United so far and they were topping the standings ahead of the important home fixture against John Bond´s Norwich City. The Old Trafford men had suffered a rather disappointing 2-0 defeat against City in the reverse meeting at Carrow Road on the 28th of September, however, and they were out for revenge. Following a relatively uneventful first half, Manchester United started the second period the sharper of the two sides and managed to break the defensive deadlock six minutes after the resumption of play when newly signed winger Steve Coppell delivered a cross that found its way to Stuart “Pancho” Pearson who made no mistake in front of goal. The East Anglia club pushed hard for an equaliser as the half progressed and the visitors in yellow shirts and green shorts were rewarded when Ted MacDougall found the net in the 68th minute of the clash. Manchester United were now leading the Second Division table with 47 points, five above Aston Villa and Sunderland, six ahead of Norwich, and seven clear of Bristol City and Blackpool.
