Uni­ted fou­nd them­selves two goals down at the in­ter­val, but a brace by Eng­land in­ter­na­tion­al Jesse Lin­gard fol­low­ing the re­start res­cued an im­port­ant point for the hosts.

Ash­ley Bar­nes ham­mered Burn­ley in­to the lead on three min­utes af­ter the Man­chester Uni­ted de­fence had failed to clear a free-kick from Jo­hann Berg Gud­mundsson, and six-min­utes pa­st the ha­lf-hour ma­rk Ste­ven De­four ad­ded a sec­ond for The Clarets wi­th a bril­liant thirty-yard free-kick which went pa­st Reds goal­keeper Da­vid de Gea and in­to the top left-hand cor­ner of the net. Jesse Lin­gard re­duced the ar­rears for Man­chester Uni­ted eight min­utes in­to the sec­ond ha­lf when the twenty-year-old mid­fielder cheekily back-heeled a low cross by Ash­ley Young pa­st away cus­todi­an Nick Pope and in­to the bot­tom left-hand cor­ner of the net, and the same play­er sco­red ag­ain in the fir­st min­ute of stop­page time as he fired the ball ho­me from in­side the box to make it two-all.
