Mi­chael Car­rick han­ded Man­chester Uni­ted the lead in the fourth min­ute of the mat­ch be­fore Way­ne Roo­ney ad­ded a sec­ond goal five min­utes af­ter the restart.

Sir Al­ex Ferguson´s Man­chester Uni­ted te­am gave a good ac­count of them­selves in the 2-0 ho­me win ag­ainst Shef­field Uni­ted as they stret­ched their lead to six points over fel­low title chasers Chel­sea. Sir Al­ex Fer­guson: “It was a pro­fes­sion­al job and in the sec­ond pe­riod we just ran down the clock a bit. The per­form­ance was eco­nom­ic­al and we did­n’t kill ourselves, which was im­port­ant. It´s good to have our six-point lead back, wi­th five mat­ches to go. The play­ers have got the right tem­pera­ment to cope wi­th it as well.
