Af­ter de­feat­ing South­ampton and Wat­ford in their two pre­vi­ous ho­me fix­tures in the Pre­mier Lea­gue, Ole Gun­nar Solskjaer´s Man­chester Uni­ted troops edged out West Ham Uni­ted by 2-1 at Old Traf­ford cour­tesy of a couple of pen­alty goals from Paul Pogba. 

Man­chester Uni­ted were with­out the play­ing ser­vices of Eric Bailly, An­der Her­rera, Lu­ke Shaw, Ne­manja Mat­ic, Alex­is San­chez, Ash­ley Young, and An­tonio Va­lencia, where­as the Lon­don Sta­dium out­fit had to make do with­out Andy Car­roll, Samir Nasri, Win­ston Re­id, Car­los San­chez, Jack­ie Wil­shere, and An­driy Yar­molen­ko. West Ham Uni­ted and Brazil mid­fielder Fe­lipe An­der­son had the ball in the net af­ter ten min­utes, but his goal was in­cor­rectly ruled out for off­side. In­stead it was Man­chester Uni­ted who took the lead as Paul Po­gba be­at Po­land shot stop­per Lukasz Fa­bi­anski from the spot fol­low­ing a chal­lenge on Ju­an Ma­ta by West Ham wing­er Ro­bert Snod­grass in­side the pen­alty area in the 19th min­ute of the mat­ch. Wi­th the fir­st pe­riod ap­proach­ing its end, An­der­son came clo­se to scor­ing ag­ain on the stroke of ha­lf-time, on­ly to see his cross-shot su­perbly bloc­ked by Man­chester Uni­ted goal­keeper Da­vid de Gea. In the sec­ond ha­lf, An­der­son fi­nally ma­naged to equal­ise for The Ham­mers when he fou­nd the back of the net wi­th a clo­se ran­ge ef­fort in the 49th min­ute of the ga­me, but Man­chester Uni­ted had the last word as Po­gba con­ver­ted an­oth­er pen­alty af­ter Ry­an Fre­d­er­icks had bro­ught down French in­ter­na­tion­al An­thony Mar­tial in­side the box wi­th ten min­utes left on the clock. Ro­melu Lu­kaku opened the scor­ing as the mas­sive stri­ker picked up a pass from Mar­cus Rash­ford and ham­mered the ball in­to the net three min­utes pa­st the ha­lf-hour ma­rk. Then, af­ter the break, Lu­kaku made it 2-0 to Uni­ted on 52 min­utes when he con­ver­ted a free-kick from Hen­rikh Mkhitary­an. Man­chester Uni­ted kept up the pres­sure and An­thony Mar­tial in­creased the ad­vant­age in the 87th min­ute be­fore Paul Po­gba re­gistered the fourth goal of the af­ter­noon just three min­utes later.
