Fol­low­ing a goal­less fir­st ha­lf, Mar­cus Rash­ford gave Man­chester Uni­ted the up­per hand six min­utes in­to the sec­ond ha­lf as he be­at Col­chester Uni­ted goal­keeper Dean Gerken wi­th an un­stoppable shot from in­side the pen­alty box. The Old Traf­ford si­de kept up the pres­sure and had their sec­ond goal of the even­ing five min­utes la­ter when Ry­an Jack­son put the ball in­to his own net be­fore An­thony Mar­tial ad­ded a third for the ho­me si­de a min­ute pa­st the hour ma­rk wi­th a right-footed clo­se ran­ge ef­fort. Af­ter com­fort­ably over­com­ing Col­chester, Man­chester Uni­ted would now take on neigh­bouring rivals Man­chester City in the Cara­bao Cup Semi-Fi­nals. Ole Gun­nar Sol­skjaer: “We dom­in­ated and cre­ated chances, but you are nev­er sure un­til you get fir­st goal.
