Following a goalless first half, Marcus Rashford gave Manchester United the upper hand six minutes into the second half as he beat Colchester United goalkeeper Dean Gerken with an unstoppable shot from inside the penalty box. The Old Trafford side kept up the pressure and had their second goal of the evening five minutes later when Ryan Jackson put the ball into his own net before Anthony Martial added a third for the home side a minute past the hour mark with a right-footed close range effort. After comfortably overcoming Colchester, Manchester United would now take on neighbouring rivals Manchester City in the Carabao Cup Semi-Finals.
