Manchester U 3 Liverpool 1
Manchester United 3 Liverpool 1, Old Trafford, English Premier League, September 12, 2015. Following a disappointing 2-1 loss to Swansea City at Liberty Stadium, Manchester United redeemed themselves by beating North West rivals Liverpool 3-1 at Old Trafford.
Manchester United enjoyed plenty of chances during the first half, but they were denied by Liverpool and Belgium goalkeeper Simon Mignolet. The Old Trafford club began the second half just as positively and the breakthrough came after 49 minutes when Juan Mata sent a low free-kick to Daley Blind who hammed a powerful shot from inside the penalty area past Mignolet and into the top left corner of the net. Manchester United carried on attacking and were duly rewarded as Ander Herrera added a second goal for the hosts in the 70th minute of the derby game. Belgian international Christian Benteke gave the away supporters some renewed hope when the massive marksman found the target on 84 minutes, but new signing Anthony Martial took the match beyond reach for the visitors as the debutant beat Mignolet with a well placed effort four minutes from time.
