Manchester United 4 Blackpool 0, Old Trafford, English Football League Second Division, April 26, 1975. Already crowned Second Division Champions Manchester United finished the 1974-75 season in excellent style as Tommy Docherty´s troops outclassed Blackpool to the tune of a 4-0 margin.

Manchester United had managed a 2-2 draw against Jimmy Sirrel´s Notts County at Meadow Lane in their previous match, with defenders Brian Greenhoff and Stewart Houston finding the back of the net for the visitors. The Manchester club had beaten Blackpool 3-0 at Bloomfield Road in the reverse fixture through goals by Alex Forsyth, Lou Macari, and Jim McCalliog and few expected anything but another victory for The Reds. At Old Trafford, Manchester United went ahead when Stuart Pearson knocked a loose ball past Blackpool shot stopper John Burridge, a bargain £10,000 buy from Workington, and into the net in the 20th minute of the tie. United doubled their lead ten minutes after the break thanks to another goal from Pearson before Macari and Greenhoff added to the tally in the 79th and 83rd minutes respectively to hand the hosts 4-0 win against The Tangerines. The result meant that Manchester United ended the 1974-75 campaign on 60 points, two points clear of runners-up Aston Villa, and as much as eight points above Norwich City in third place.

Elsewhere in the Second Division, Portsmouth were trashed 3-0 by Norwich City at Carrow Road where Mike McGuire, Martin Peters, and Phil Boyer scored the goals for The Canaries, Cardiff City suffered a 2-1 defeat to Bolton Wanderers at Ninian Park, Notts County overcame Oxford City 2-1 at Manor Ground, Aston Villa emerged 2-0 winners over Sunderland at Villa Park, Fulham succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Bristol City at Ashton Gate, York City were held to goalless draw by Oldham Athletic at Bootham Crescent, Nottingham Forest secured a 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion at City Ground, Millwall and Bristol Rovers played out a 1-1 draw at The Den, Orient edged out Southampton 2-1 at Brisbane Road, and Hull City defeated Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 at Boothferry Park thanks to a goal by former Old Trafford striker Peter Fletcher. Anyway, it had been a great season for Manchester United and the club were now looking forward to First Division football once again.
