Manchester U 2 Arsenal 1
Manchester United 2 Arsenal 1, Old Trafford, English Football League First Division, January 10, 1970. Manchester United came from behind to edge out Arsenal 2-1 at their Old Trafford home courtesy of a goal each from Carlo Sartori and Willie Morgan in the 45th and 48th minutes respectively.
Manchester United, who were without the services of Northern Ireland international Georgie Best because of suspension, found themselves one goal down in the 15th minute of the match when Scotland U23 player Peter Marinello scored from close range after an error by Ian Ure. Manchester United had the ball in the net shortly afterwards through a ferocious free-kick from Bobby Charlton, but the goal was disallowed for Brian Kidd being marginally offside. As the first half wore on, The Reds gradually started to dominate possession and territory and the home side finally had their equaliser on the stroke of 45 minutes as defender Francis Burns delivered a high free-kick into the penalty area where substitute Carlo Sartori managed to get the ball into the back of the net. Following the resumption of play, Manchester United carried on where they had left off before the break with Kidd setting up Scotland flanker Willie Morgan to net the winner three minutes into the second period.
