Man­chester Uni­ted were gif­ted the lead when Lu­cas Radebe put the ball in the back of his own net wi­th twenty min­utes gone of the ga­me. The El­land Road club wor­ked hard for an equal­iser af­ter the ha­lf-time break and the vis­it­ors ev­entually lev­elled the score thro­ugh Aus­trali­an in­ter­na­tion­al Ma­rk Viduka who nod­ded ho­me a free-kick from Ian Harte four min­utes pa­st the hour ma­rk. But Man­chester Uni­ted had the last word as Mi­kael Sil­vestre con­ver­ted a Da­vid Beck­ham free-kick el­ev­en min­utes from time.
