Ecuadori­an in­ter­na­tion­al An­tonio Va­lencia put Uni­ted in­to an early 1-0 lead when the ver­sat­ile play­er ham­mered the ball pa­st Sto­ke City goal­keeper Jack But­land and in­to the net from just in­side the pen­alty area af­ter on­ly nine min­utes of ac­tion be­fore An­thony Mar­tial made it 2-0 to the ho­me te­am in the 38th min­ute. Jose Mourinho´s boys kept up their dom­in­ance fol­low­ing the re­sump­tion and Ro­melu Lu­kaku net­ted the third goal of the en­counter eight­een min­utes from time to se­cure a 3-0 suc­cess.
