Man­chester Uni­ted 5 Sto­ke City 0, Old Old Traf­ford, Eng­lish Foot­ball Lea­gue Fir­st Di­vi­sion, April 6, 1985. Man­chester Uni­ted, who were sit­ting in sec­ond place in the ta­ble, de­mol­ished Sto­ke City 5-0 at ho­me to gain their fourth Fir­st Di­vi­sion vic­tory on the trot cour­tesy of a brace each from Ma­rk Hug­hes and Jes­per Ol­sen plus a single goal by Nor­man Whiteside. 

Man­chester Uni­ted had beaten As­ton Vil­la, Liver­pool, and Lei­cester City in their three pre­vi­ous Fir­st Di­vi­sion fix­tures, where­as Sto­ke City had over­come Ar­senal and suf­fered de­feats ag­ainst Not­ting­ham For­est and As­ton Vil­la. Welsh in­ter­na­tion­al Ma­rk Hug­hes put Uni­ted in front in the fourth min­ute of the mat­ch whi­le Dan­ish wing­er Jes­per Ol­sen net­ted a sec­ond goal three min­utes be­fore the ha­lf-hour ma­rk to give the ho­me te­am a 2-0 lead at the in­ter­val. Hug­hes then sco­red a third goal for Man­chester Uni­ted in the 65th min­ute of pro­ceed­ings be­fore Ol­sen ad­ded a fourth af­ter 80 min­utes of ac­tion. And wi­th on­ly one min­ute re­maining of the one-sided ga­me, Nor­man White­side roun­ded off the scor­ing spree when the nine­teen-year-old North­ern Ire­land marks­man out­maouvred Sto­ke City shot stop­per Bar­ry Sid­dall to make it 5-0 to The Reds.
