Manchester United Factsbook Report: Manchester United 4 Manchester City 2, Old Trafford, English Premier League, April 12, 2015. Manchester United beat Manchester City 4-2 in a highly competitive and entertaining game at The Theatre of Dreams. Ashley Young, Marouane Fellaini, Juan Mata, and Chris Smalling scored the goals for United, while Sergio Aguero found the net on two occasions for City.

Manchester United had not managed to defeat cross-town neighbours Manchester City in the Premier League since the 9th of December 2012, and the Old Trafford team were no doubt out to extract revenge against the Eastlands outfit when the two clubs were up against each other on the 12th of April 2015. United entered the tie fresh from a 3-1 triumph against Aston Villa at Old Trafford, while City had suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in their previous game. Argentina international striker Sergio Aguero put Manuel Pellegrini´s side ahead after just eight minutes of play, only for Ashley Young to equalise for Manchester United when the England flanker converted a low cross from Ander Herrera on fourteen minutes. Marouane Fellaini then gave Louis van Gaal´s men the lead with a close range header after twenty-seven minutes of fierce action before midfield playmaker Juan Mata recorded a third goal for the aggressive home team midway through the second period of the derby encounter. To make things even worse for Manchester City, Chris Smalling produced the fifth goal of the afternoon when the defender headed home to make it 4-1 to the hosts in the 73rd minute of the tussle. Aguero managed to net a consolation goal for City in the closing stages of the contest, but it was too late for the Etihad Stadium club. Following the 4-2 victory at Old Trafford, third placed Manchester United were now as much as four points ahead of Manchester City who were in fourth position in the Premier League table.
