Af­ter los­ing two points ag­ainst The Ham­mers, Man­chester Uni­ted now fou­nd them­selves back in fourth place wi­th 44 points gain­ed from 24 mat­ches played, on­ly one point above fifth po­si­tioned Tot­ten­ham Hot­spur. Chel­sea were top­ping the Pre­mier Lea­gue ta­ble wi­th 56 points col­lec­ted from 24 ga­mes played, sev­en points clear of sec­ond pla­ced Man­chester City, and el­ev­en points ahead of sur­prise te­am South­ampton who were in third spot.
