Manchester City 1 Manchester United 0, Wembley Stadium, English FA Cup Semi-Final, April 16, 2011. Former Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure hit the only goal of the contest to send Manchester City into the FA Cup Final for the first time since 1981. The Manchester Reds nevertheless opened the match well and should have netted on 15 minutes when Dimitar Berbatov had two golden chances inside a minute, but the striker wasted both of them.

Although England international Wayne Rooney was a noteable omission, Manchester United opened the game on a bright note and Dimitar Berbatov almost put them into the lead after 15 minutes of play, but his effort was saved by Joe Hart in the Manchester City goal. And, just a few seconds later, the Bulgarian missed from close range after a brilliant cross from Luis Nani. Manchester City’s first scoring opportunity came on 32 minutes as a shot from Gareth Barry hit the side netting. Mario Balotelli then forced United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar into making an excellent save before England defender Joleon Lescott hit a volley over the crossbar. The Sky Blues finally went ahead in the 52nd minute of the FA Cup Semi-Final after a hopeless pass from Michael Carrick allowed Ivory Coast international Yaya Toure to hammer the ball through the legs of Van der Sar. To add misery, Manchester United finished with ten men after midfield veteran Paul Scholes was sent off in the 72nd minute following a mindless challenge on Pablo Zabaleta. Sir Alex Ferguson´s troops battled hard to find a way back into the clash, but Manchester City continued to control play and eventually ended up 1-0 winners.
