Fir­st ha­lf goals from Chris Small­ing, Lu­is Nani, and Way­ne Roo­ney re­spect­ively se­cured a fully de­served 3-1 vic­tory over the West Lon­don club and Uni­ted were now top­ping the Pre­miership ta­ble wi­th fif­teen points gain­ed from five ga­mes played.

De­fend­ing Pre­mier Lea­gue Cham­pi­ons Man­chester Uni­ted were three goals in front at the ha­lf-time break and the con­fid­ent ho­me si­de ev­entually won the highly an­ti­cip­ated en­counter ag­ainst Chel­sea by a 3-1 score. Af­ter the ho­me vic­tory over The Blues, Sir Al­ex Fer­guson ac­cused Three Li­ons de­fender Ash­ley Cole of a vi­ol­ent chal­lenge on Uni­ted stri­ker Javi­er Her­nandez who was for­ced to leave the pitch as a dir­ect res­ult of the tack­le.
