Manchester U 4 West Ham 0
Manchester United 4 West Ham United 0, Old Trafford, English Football League First Division, February 28, 1976. Manchester United had few problems in beating The Irons at home. Following a goalless first half, Alex Forsyth opened the scoring early in the second half before Lou Macari, David McCreery, and Stuart Pearson added a goal each to make the result 4-0.
Even though Manchester United and West Ham both entered this encounter on the back of 1-1 home draws to Derby County and Leeds United respectively, the red shirts were nevertheless favourites to win the tussle, and a comfortable victory was plain sailing from the moment they had their opening goal. The Old Traford side controlled the possession of the ball from the very beginning of the game, but the hosts failed to find the back of the net during the first period of the match. Tommy Docherty´s men went into the lead in the contest shortly after the resumption of play, though, when Scotland international defender Alex Forsyth scored one his rare goals in the 49th minute of proceedings. And only a mere seven minutes later fellow countryman Lou Macari doubled the advantage for Manchester United before Sammy McIlroy replacement David McCreery netted the third goal of the afternoon following 76 minutes of action. Then, with just two minutes left on the referee´s clock, free flowing forward Stuart Pearson rounded off the scoring spree to make it 4-0.
