Manchester U 4 Norwich 0
Manchester United 4 Norwich City 0, Old Trafford, English Football League Cup Fourth Round, October 29, 2013. Manchester United had no difficulties against Norwich City at Old Trafford in the League Cup Fourth Round. A double by Javier Hernandez and a single each from Phil Jones and Fabio da Silva saw United run out comfortable and deserved 4-0 winners.
Manchester United were correctly awarded a penalty by match official Kevin Friend after nineteen minutes of play when Leroy Fer brought down Adnan Januzaj inside the box and the subsequent spot-kick was excellently converted by goal scoring specialist Javier Hernandez a minute later. United kept up the pressure following the restart and had their second goal of the Capital One Cup clash six minutes before the hour mark when Netherlands U21 international Alexander Buttner accurately crossed for Chicharito who managed to head the ball past Norwich City goalkeeper Mark Bunn and into the back of the net on the second attempt. And, after 88 minutes of action, Manchester United stretched their advantage further when Three Lions international defender Phil Jones produced one of his rare goals with a powerful and spectacular first time volley from inside the area before Fabio da Silva, who had replaced Januzaj in the 90th minute of the tie, notched up the final goal of the contest as he found the net with a near-post effort during stoppage time to make the final scoreline 4-0 in the home side´s favour. Not resting on their laurels, Manchester United Assistant Head Coach Steve Round told the waiting press corps after the game that the club were not into celebrations yet.
