Manchester United outclassed Wigan Athletic by 4-0 in the 2006 League Cup Final at the 75,000 capacity Millennium Stadium in Cardiff through a brace by Wayne Rooney and a goal each from Louis Saha and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Unfortunately for Wigan Athletic, Mike Pollitt picked up a hamstring injury in the 14th minute of the contest and the former Manchester United netminder was replaced by second choice goalkeeper John Filan. In front of an attendance of 65,000 people at the Millenium Stadium, The Mancunians ultimately took the lead as England international striker Wayne Rooney powered an unstoppable shot past Filan and into the back of the net twelve minutes ahead of the half-time break. In the 55th minute of the encounter, Louis Saha netted United´s second goal of the afternoon before Portuguese sharpshooter Cristiano Ronaldo made it 3-0 just four minutes later. Then, in the 61st minute of the League Cup Final, Rooney put the cherry on the Manchester United cake when the previous Goodison Park marksman completed his brace with a close range effort to make the final score read 4-0 in favour of The Reds.
