Manchester Utd 1 Stoke 0
Manchester United 1 Stoke City 0, Old Trafford, English Football League First Division, November 4, 1967. Reigning First Division Champions Manchester United managed to edge out Stoke City 1-0 at home through a goal by World Cup winner Bobby Charlton with fifteen minutes remaining of the tie.
Manchester United had suffered a surprise 3-1 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest at City Ground in their previous Division One fixture, while Tony Waddington´s Stoke City had beaten FA Cup holders Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Victoria Ground. The Potters had come to Old Trafford to defend and the frustrated home supporters had to wait until the 75th minute for the breakthrough when Bobby Charlton scored on a rebound after away goalkeeper Gordon Banks had failed to hold a ferocious shot from Northern Ireland international George Best. The Reds were never really threatened after that and the hosts saw out the match to claim a narrow, but well deserved, win.
