Manchester U 2 Arsenal 1
Manchester United 2 Arsenal 1, Old Trafford, English Football League First Division, March 19, 1966. Manchester United edged out Arsenal 2-1 to gain their fourth successive home win. Denis Law and Nobby Stiles registered a goal each for The Reds in the first half before Tom Walley netted a consolation for the North London club late in the second period.
Manchester United had defeated Arsenal 3-1 at Old Trafford in the corresponding fixture of the 1964-65 season and The Gunners didn’t fare much better this time out. United went ahead in the game after just two minutes of action courtesy of a close range header from dangerous marksman Denis Law. As the first half wore on, Nobby Stiles scored one his rare goals for Manchester United when the midfield enforcer converted a fine cross by fellow England international John Connelly a minute before the half-hour mark. Following the break, Tom Walley managed to reduce the deficit for the visiting side in the 88th minute of the encounter as the wing half beat Northern Ireland goalkeeper Harry Greg with a brilliant half-volley which found the top left-hand corner of the net.
