Man­chester Uni­ted and Re­pub­lic of Ire­land mid­fielder Liam Miller sco­red the fir­st goal of the mat­ch in the fourth min­ute af­ter Barnet shot stop­per Ross Flit­ney had be­en sent off for hand­ling the ball out­side the pen­alty area two min­utes earli­er. Kier­an Richard­son made it 2-0 to Uni­ted in the 19th min­ute and Gi­useppe Ros­si ad­ded a third six min­utes in­to the sec­ond ha­lf. Dean Sin­clair re­duced the de­fi­cit for Barnet on 74 min­utes, but Sylvan Ebanks-Blake net­ted a fourth goal for the ho­me si­de a min­ute from time.
