Nikola Jovanovic Profile
A commanding central defender who also had a nose for goal, Nikola Jovanovic made his Manchester United debut in a 3-1 League Division One triumph against Derby County at Baseball Ground on the 2nd of February 1980, and he found the back of the net for the first time for the club in a 1-1 First Division draw against freshly promoted Sunderland at Old Trafford on the 30th of August the same year. While at Manchester United, however, Jovanovic was tragically diagnosed with chronic back pain and his Old Trafford career was short lived. After clocking up only 21 Football League appearances for The Red Devils between 1980 and 1982, the injury stricken player decided to join forces with Montenegrin side Buducnost Podgorica where he finished off his active playing career at the age of 31. A Yugoslavia international, Nikola Jovanovic represented his country on seven occasions and was a member of the squad at the 1982 Spain World Cup.
