Nikola Jovanovic Profile

A com­mand­ing cent­ral de­fender who also had a nose for goal, Nikola Jovan­ovic made his Man­chester Uni­ted de­but in a 3-1 Lea­gue Di­vi­sion One tri­umph ag­ainst Der­by Coun­ty at Base­ball Gro­und on the 2nd of Feb­ruary 1980, and he fou­nd the back of the net for the fir­st time for the club in a 1-1 Fir­st Di­vi­sion draw ag­ainst freshly pro­moted Sun­der­land at Old Traf­ford on the 30th of Au­gust the same year. Whi­le at Man­chester Uni­ted, how­ever, Jovan­ovic was tra­gic­ally dia­gnosed wi­th chron­ic back pain and his Old Traf­ford ca­reer was short lived. Af­ter clock­ing up on­ly 21 Foot­ball Lea­gue ap­pear­ances for The Red Dev­ils be­tween 1980 and 1982, the in­jury stricken play­er de­cided to join for­ces wi­th Montenegrin si­de Bu­ducnost Podgor­ica where he fin­ished off his act­ive play­ing ca­reer at the age of 31.
