Norwich City 1 Manchester United 3, Carrow Road, English Premier League, April 5, 1993. Manchester United defeated Norwich City 3-1 at Carrow Road thanks to a goal each from Ryan Giggs, Andrei Kanchelskis, and Eric Cantona in the first period. Norwich´s consolation goal arrived on the hour mark and was scored by former United striker Mark Robins.

The Old Trafford side had beaten Norwich 1-0 in the reverse meeting of the 1992-93 season courtesy of a goal from Mark Hughes and were narrow favourites to overcome City at Carrow Road. In their last five Premiership fixtures, Manchester United had defeated Liverpool, drawn against Aston Villa, Manchester City, and Arsenal, and lost to Oldham Athletic, whereas Norwich had overcome Sheffield United, Oldham Athletic, Nottingham Forest, and Aston Villa, and lost against Wimbledon. In front of a bumper crowd in Norwich, United dominated proceedings from the very beginning of the clash and the visiting side had their opening goal after twelve minutes when the inform Ryan Giggs received a perfect through pass from Eric Cantona and effortlessly rounded City goalkeeper Bryan Gunn and put the ball into the empty net. Manchester United continued to push forward and Alex Ferguson´s title contenders were duly rewarded for their attacking efforts as Russian international flanker Andrei Kanchelskis hit a second goal for The Reds on nineteen minutes before Cantona added a third for the visitors a minute later in the encounter. Mark Robins, once a Ferguson fledgling alongside players like Clayton Blackmore, Russell Beardsmore, Lee Martin, and Lee Sharpe, reduced the deficit for The Canaries fifteen minutes into the second half, but United were never threatened in this match.

Born and brought up in nearby Oldham, Mark Robins had joined Manchester United as an apprentice on the 23rd of July 1986 and went on to sign his first professional contract with the club on the 22nd of December 1986. He was given his First Division baptism in a 1–1 draw against FA Cup holders Wimbledon at Plough Lane on the 22nd of October 1988, but he never managed to claim a regular place in the first team at Old Trafford. Accordingly, on the 14th of August 1992, Robins was transferred to Norwich City for a fee of £800,000 and the frontman marked his debut by scoring twice in a surprise 4-2 triumph against Arsenal at Highbury Stadium on the opening day of the first ever Premier League campaign. Norwich City Team: Bryan Gunn, Ian Culverhouse, John Polston, Chris Sutton, David Phillips, Mark Bowen, Ian Crook, Ruel Fox, Jeremy Goss, Gary Megson, Mark Robins.
