Nottm Forest 2 Man Utd 2
Nottingham Forest 2 Manchester United 2, City Ground, English Football League First Division, January 16, 1965. Although Manchester United had comprehensively beaten Nottingham Forest 3-0 at Old Trafford in the reverse match of the 1964-65 season, Matt Busby´s title chasers had to settle for a disappointing 2-2 draw against The Tricky Trees in front of an attendance of 43,000 at City Ground.
Manchester United were sitting in third place in the First Division table with 37 points gained from 25 games, while Nottingham Forest found themselves in sixth position with 29 points collected from 26 matches. Denis Law, who was back from injury and looking as sharp as ever, put Manchester United ahead when the industrious forward rounded Nottingham Forest shot stopper Peter Grummitt and slotted the ball into the back of the net in the third minute of the tie, only for Alan Hinton to level the score for the hosts as he fired a blistering shot from outside the area past away goalkeeper Pat Dunne and into the top right-hand corner twelve minutes later. Hinton then made it 2-1 to the home outfit in the 23rd minute with a goal which should have been disallowed for offside before The Lawman equalised a minute past the half-hour mark for the visitors to share the points.
